North Shields has a number of places to visit if you are wanting to stay local. Northumberland Park offers short walks through trees and ponds with a large park for the children. The Fish Quay offers fresh fish and fish and chips right on the banks of the Tyne. The Shields Ferry will also take you across the river so you can Explore South Shields and beyond.

Tynemouth has been voted one of the best places to live in the UK a number of times. Visit the Priory and Castle, try out surfing on Longsands or pick up a bargain at the Tynemouth Market situated in the Metro Station.

Whitley Bay sits just north of Cullercoats. The Spanish City has been recently restored and the walk along the promenade to St Mary's lighthouse is worth the effort. You will want to check the tide times to make it across to the island and back before the tide comes in. The award winning Jam Jar Cinema is a great choice for a rainy day or try your luck out at the Pirate Escape.

You will never be short of beaches in the North East and each has its own character.  South of Cullercoats bay you have Longsands and King Eddies bay. North you have Whitley Bay, Seaton Sluice and Blyth Beach. If you want to find somewhere a little more secluded and rugged you can visits Druridge Bay (40mins by Car), Embleton Bay (1hour by car), Bednall Bay (1hour 10mins by car) and Holy Island (1hour 20mins by car).  Each offers there own unique experience and allows you to take in some of the surrounding attractions including the country park at Druridge, Craster and Dunstanbugh Castle at Embleton, Seahouses and the Farne Islands near Bednall and Lindisfarne Castle, Priory and much more on Holy Island.
